Qin Feng is a tough, iconoclastic ink painter who has established an international reputation as one of the leaders of the new wave of modernist ink painting.

For his second solo exhibition at Goedhuis Contemporary, Qin Feng will be presenting seventeen recent works that exemplify his unique ability to fuse the elegant tradition of Chinese calligraphic ink painting with the emotional intensity of Western Abstract Expressionism. The result of this combination is a series of work that is at once rebellious, refined, and exuding raw emotion.

Born in 1961 in Xinjiang Province, China, Qin Feng has been a prominent figure in the contemporary art movement in China, where he was schooled, Germany, where he taught at the Berlin University of Art, and the United States, where he currently lives and works. Unlike many Chinese artists working in the West, Qin Feng creates work that is rooted in Chinese tradition, using brush and ink as did Chinese artists centuries earlier. However, having lived in the West for over a decade, Western materials and movements have found their way into Qin's work as well. With a tendency towards non-conformity that has characterized his actions since his days as an art student in China, Qin Feng is unwilling to adhere to any one artistic language and instead has formed his own. As stated by the artist, "I deconstruct those elements only to re-construct and de-construct them again, giving birth to new forms, paradoxes and combinations."

Qin Feng founded the Beijing Museum of Contemporary Art in 2007, one of the only museums in China devoted solely to contemporary art. His work has been exhibited at numerous museums worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Asia Pacific Museum in California, and the Modern Art Museum in Beijing.
