Zhao Bandi

b. 1966

Zhao Bandi is regarded as one of the wittiest and most original of China's New Wave movement. A native of Beijing, the artist is equally at ease in painting, photography and installation work. His works have been exhibited widely across Asia, Europe and America since 1992 and he emerged on the international art scene in full force during his exhibition at the 48th Biennale in Venice in 1999. Since that time, he has focused on a series of photographs, entitled Zhao Bandi and the Panda, which are computer enhanced images, complete with strip cartoon text and depicting the artist and his toy panda engaged in a variety of locations and activities.
