He is well known in Beijing for his trademark silhouettes of a human head sprayed on empty and abandoned buildings—this was his effort to bring his compatriots to recognize the effects of China's seemingly unstoppable drive towards modernization. Zhang Dali strives to highlight the portion—be it the dilapidated buildings or the individual migrant workers, subjects of his newest works—of society that have been forgotten in the face of modernization and globalization.
