Born in the Shaanxi Province in 1966, Yu Hong is one of the leading figures of her generation having specialized in oil painting at the esteemed Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Her compositions are often rendered in vivid color schemes and bold brush strokes. Her works characteristically portray, as described by Britta Erikson, the "poetry of day-to-day existence" from female perspectives in all stages of life. Her works also simultaneously explore the relationship of the individual with the rapid social change taking place in China. Her work has been widely collected by numerous institutions worldwide.
