Shen Liang

Shen Liang was born in 1976 in Liaoning, China. He received his master's degree in 2003 from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing with a specialization in oil painting, and since then he has been teaching at the Beijing University of Technology, Institute of Art and Design. Shen Liang is one of the most prominent members of the current young generation of oil painters who eschew the fashionable area of photography and video in favor of a rigorous investigation into the possibilities of painting. His work explores the subject of the Peking Opera, which, through his modernist pictorial treatment, connects the past to the reality of contemporary China.
