Li Tingting 李婷婷

b. 1982

Born in Shanxi Province in 1982, Li Tingting belongs to the younger generation of Chinese ink painters who are exploring the contemporary possibilities of the ink tradition. Li received her M.F.A. degree from Xu Beihong College of Art at Renmin University of China in 2007. Well trained in classical Chinese painting techniques, Li has developed her own way to integrate the ink tradition into modern or even post-modern themes. While the choice of paper, the brushstrokes, and the ink washes follow the tradition of Chinese painting and calligraphy, the subject matters in her paintings are common objects in modern daily life, such as shoes, flowers, bottles and glasses. She often repetitively depicts the same object in her paintings, which presents a beautiful yet cruel commentary on contemporary culture.
